About Us

Our Philosophy

Every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Newnham Nursery takes a holistic approach to early education, supporting children’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development through purposeful play.

Learning is carefully planned to be engaging, meaningful, and enjoyable. Children are encouraged to explore, investigate, ask questions, and express themselves through hands-on experiences that promote curiosity and confidence. A balance of structure and flexibility ensures children feel secure while developing independence and resilience.

Learning Through Play

The nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, play-based learning is at the heart of the curriculum, with clear learning intentions woven into daily activities. Children are supported to progress at their own pace, with individual interests and needs carefully recognised, ensuring children develop across all key areas of learning, including:

  • Communication and language
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Physical development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

For the Love of Books

A love of books and stories is nurtured from an early age at Newnham Pre-School Nursery. Children are encouraged to explore books daily through a welcoming library that allows them to borrow books to enjoy at home. Sharing stories supports language development, imagination, and early literacy, while also creating calm, enjoyable moments within the nursery day.

Families are encouraged to share reading experiences at home, supporting children to build confidence and enjoyment through stories.

 OUR SETTING

Newnham Nursery is situated in the grounds of Newnham Croft Primary School. We hold our sessions in the community room of the school, it is a large, bright and airy room, providing a very adaptable play area.

Our setting designed to inspire curiosity and creativity, offering children a safe space to learn, play, and grow.

Outside there is a secure enclosed well equipped playground, decorated with bright wall murals and equipped with a large wooden playhouse, sit-and-ride toys and a large sandpit. A joining the room there is a small kitchen, cloakroom & toilets.

We share the community room with the out of school club

NEWNHAM CROFT SCHOOL

The nursery enjoys close links and association with the main school. We have use of their ample facilities, including their  playgrounds, the school hall, music room, cookery suite.

Close liaison with the school ensures that our nursery is working towards the same goals as children in the reception year at school. Children who will be leaving the nursery at the end of the year have an opportunity to visit the reception class and meet their new teachers.

We are NOT a feeder nursery to the school, although many of our children do join the school in the reception year. Attending the nursery does not guarantee automatic placement within the school
